TRADITIONAL SAFARIS

"For the land of the scented mornings and the nights of the satin moon

Will lap your soul with solace and set your heart in tune"

Luxury tented and lodge safaris

Experience the freedom of safari life and the thrill of sleeping under canvas. Get close to nature in the peace and tranquillity of the wilderness. Escape the confines of the crowds and enjoy your own private camp, fully-equipped to ensure your luxurious and comfortable stay. Our professional staff will cater for all your needs, so all you have to do is relax and enjoy the unique experience of being in the African bush: Listen to the evening's serenade as you enjoy a drink around the camp fire, where adventurous tales will enthral you before a sumptuous home-cooked dinner is served. Tented safaris can also be incorporated with stays at our hand-picked lodges: you can rest assured that you will not be disappointed.

Private camps are set up in advance, on an individual basis, depending on the best game-viewing at the time of your safari. You will sleep in roomy, walk-in style, canvas tents, completely water and insect proof. They are carpetedsleeping tent.JPG (12418 bytes), well furnished and thoughtfully equipped for your comfort and ease. Toilet and shower tents are en-suite - hot showers are available at any time. Dining involves three-course meals prepared over wood coals by an excellent chef who has given over twenty dinning with mzungu 2.JPG (45767 bytes)years' service to Bateleur. Meals are served in style, at tables with all the accompanying linen, china and glassware. Bottled butane gas and solar energy, rather than a noisy generator, are the main source of power for fridges and lighting. We certainly show you how to live in style in the wild!

We use four-wheel drive vehicles driven by professional guides. Each vehicle is equipped with large roof hatches to ensure prime game viewing in maximum comfort. On game drives we carry refreshments and snacks, as well as bean bags to assist photography and relevant reference books for you your perusal.Giraffe with vehicle.JPG (60768 bytes)

Viewing and photographing big game from close range is best done from our customized vehicles, but in most of our camps there is also the option of walking with an armed and experienced guide. Freed from the confines of modern transport, your senses will be alert and in tune with nature. You will truly feel the heartbeat of this ancient continent.

Elephant walkup.JPG (63400 bytes)Michael Cheffings and the other guides who conduct our safaris have camped, hunted, fished and walked in East Africa for most of their lives. To take visitors on safari in the land in which we grew up, gives us as much pleasure as it gives our guests. We may start out as strangers, but we end up friends for life.
